I have a long-standing commitment to healthcare and public health, with experience spanning claims processing, patient support, public health emergency preparedness, and healthcare technology. My work includes both professional and volunteer roles, reinforcing my ability to bridge technology, operations, and patient-centered care within the healthcare space.
Claims Processing & Healthcare Administration
Aetna Healthcare (2004)
I worked as a customer service representative for State of Alaska retirees, assisting with medical, dental, and vision claims. This role required knowledge of ICD-9, CPT, and DX codes and frequent collaboration with providers to track down missing claim information. My problem-solving skills and commitment to service resulted in a high customer satisfaction rate.
Patient-Centered Volunteering & Leadership
Seattle King County Clinic (2015–Present)
For nearly a decade, I have volunteered annually at the Seattle King County Clinic, a free four-day medical, dental, and vision clinic serving 4,500+ under- and uninsured patients each year. The clinic delivers over $12 million in services with an all-volunteer team.
Leadership Role (5 Years): Guided and coordinated hundreds of volunteers per event.
Direct Patient & Provider Engagement: Ensured smooth clinic operations by assisting both patients and healthcare professionals.
Community Impact: Played a role in an initiative that helps patients access critical healthcare services they might otherwise go without.
Quote from the SKC Clinic website: “Seattle/King County Clinic brings together healthcare organizations, civic agencies, nonprofits, businesses, and volunteers to produce the largest community-driven free health clinic of its kind in the United States.”
Fred Hutch Cancer Center (Formerly Seattle Cancer Care Alliance) (2015–2017)
I supported local and out-of-town cancer patients and their families by providing patient reception and transportation services:
Front Desk Volunteer: Welcomed patients, provided wayfinding assistance, and coordinated parking and transportation logistics.
Transportation Support: Drove patients from the airport to the clinic or their hotels, ensuring they had a seamless, welcoming experience before their treatments.
Public Health & Emergency Preparedness
King County Public Health Reserve Corps (2015–Present)
I have been a member of the King County Public Health Reserve Corps (PHRC) since 2015, a nationally recognized Medical Reserve Corps that supports emergency preparedness, disaster response, and public health initiatives.
Completed FEMA Emergency Management Training, including:
IS-700: National Incident Management System (NIMS) Introduction
ICS-100: Introduction to the Incident Command System
Participated in public health emergency preparedness training and community response initiatives.
Healthcare Technology & Digital Transformation
Washington Global Health Alliance (2015–2017)
I collaborated with the Washington Global Health Alliance to help them select and implement a CRM, enhancing their ability to support global health initiatives.
Electronic Health Records (EHR) Migration (2016)
I worked directly with a naturopathic physician to migrate medical records into a new EHR system (PracticeFusion). This hands-on project gave me first exposure to EHR systems and the complexities of healthcare data migration.
