Current research focus

At the end of life — whether one’s own or that of a loved one — most people expect to focus on comfort, connection, and closure. But in reality, many are pulled into a tangle of billing issues, insurance authorizations, medical coding disputes, and administrative chaos.

This project explores the under-acknowledged burden of navigating medical billing, insurance paperwork, and logistical coordination in the final stages of life. These administrative tasks often fall on family members, caregivers, or untrained professionals during a time of profound emotional and physical stress.

I want to understand:

  • What systems and structures contribute to these burdens?

  • Where do people feel most lost, unsupported, or overwhelmed?

  • What do professionals see that the system overlooks?

  • Are there tools, services, or support networks that make a difference — or gaps that remain unfilled?

This is early-stage discovery work. I’m looking to connect with people who have direct experience — either through their work (e.g. hospice workers, billers, caregivers) or through personal life (e.g. managing a loved one’s care or estate). The goal is to listen deeply and identify patterns, pain points, and possibilities for future solutions.

If you or someone you know has navigated this space and is open to sharing their experience, I’d be honored to connect.
